The Power of the Public Square
On Tuesday, September 20th, at 5 p.m., Georgia College Leadership Programs will host a panel of distinguished contributors for a discussion on “The Power of the Public Square.” The event will mark the first in the Inspire! Forum on Leadership series for the 2022-23 academic year.
Panelists include Dr. Kelley Ditzel, assistant professor of public administration, and Dr. Jan Hoffmann, professor of rhetoric, both of Georgia College; and Vivian Cassaniti, Newman Civic Fellow.
The nonpartisan event will be hosted by Georgia College’s Office of Leadership Programs, in collaboration with the American Democracy Project and the Constitution Week committee.
Panelists will explore the current state of public dialogue and civil discourse in the United States and in Georgia and offer insights on the symbiosis between the public debate and democracy.
Dr. Harold Mock will moderate the discussion. Mock is director of leadership programs and assistant professor of history.
The event will feature interactive exchange with Georgia College students. “As a liberal arts institution, we teach our students in the classic tradition of leadership for the public good,” says Mock. “That involves preparing students for thoughtful and engaged citizenship and active dialogue with thought-leaders in public life.”

The Inspire! Forum on Leadership is Georgia College’s presentation-discussion series on leadership for the public good. Presenters are distinguished executives in private enterprise or hold leadership roles in the public sector and share the university’s commitment to leadership for the public good, whether in business, the non-profit sector, or public affairs.
