    Georgia College to Host Internationally Recognized Jurist

    The Hon. Peggy Walker to visit Georgia College

    On Tuesday, 19 September 2023, at 5 p.m, Georgia College Leadership Programs will host Peggy H. Walker, Senior Judge of Douglas County, Georgia. The event will mark the first in the Usery Forum on Leadership series of the 2023-24 academic year.
    Senior Judge Peggy H. Walker served as the Chief Juvenile Court Judge in Douglas County from 1998 to 2019. Since her retirement, Walker has been tapped by the American Bar Association to provide mentorship to judges in the Republic of Georgia, specifically focused on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

    Walker served as president of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges in 2015. She was a Harris Fellow of Zero To Three Class of 2005 and a Senior Fellow at Emory University in 2008. She served as chair of the Georgia Commission on Family Violence for two years and served six years on the Commission leading the effort to draft a state plan to end domestic violence. She currently serves on the Advisory Group for Safe Babies Infant and Toddler Courts for the State of Georgia. Walker graduated from Georgia College with honors, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and education. She attended Georgia State University and earned a master’s degree in education and JD with honors.

    The Usery Forum on Leadership is hosted by Georgia College's Leadership Programs. Walker's visit is organized in collaboration with the John E. Sallstrom Honors College.

    The Usery Forum on Leadership honors the legacy of U.S. Secretary of Labor W. J. Usery, Jr., exploring leadership that brings people together in service to the public good. The series is supported by a generous gift from Mr. And Mrs. Melvin and Eleyce Usery.
